Ubuntu School: Primary education gains new space

The Ubuntu School will undergo transformations starting in August. You already know that we will welcome 150 more students, but to make this happen, other positive changes have already begun.

We are building more classrooms, new bathrooms and a super cool playground for the pre-school children. The new classrooms are circular in shape. The idea is that when the school year starts again, the pre-school will have its own space. They are smaller children and have different games than the older ones.

The current school structure will remain for the elementary school, which will also be able to receive more students in the classrooms that will be empty.

Caravans from France, Canada and the United States

The Ubuntu Nation Project was visited by caravanners from France, Canada and the United States. This time, they came on behalf of the children. They got their hands into work to finish the new rooms that we have already talked about above. We are already missing them! Gratefulness for every brick placed in the construction of the classrooms and a better future for our boys and girls.

Children help build a sustainable house

The sustainability of all Fraternity projects is our dream and it is towards this that we work and educate our little ones. By doing it together, we believe it is possible! In June our children from the Ubuntu Nation project participated in a super cool activity focused on sustainability. The structure was made with reused wood and filled with PET bottles. The result was a playhouse made entirely of recyclable material.

Food without Borders for more people

The Food without Borders initiative started at the Project, also in 2018, with only half a hectare of land. We started with a small garden with carrots, beets, lettuces, cabbage, bananas, cassava, sweet potatoes. The idea was to help feed the children who were in school, and today we already have 12 hectares of land. We were also able to produce corn, more cassava, vegetables, and now fruits, more than 800 trees of oranges, avocados, lemons, guavas, peaches, and passion fruit. With this production we are already able to feed between 600 and 700 people daily.

"I was able to meet a reality so far from mine

that I spent 2 sleepless nights, thinking about how I was going to make it through the next few days. It was not easy to accept that PEOPLE really survive in that situation: crowded, hungry, forgotten. And when the services started, the biggest shock of all came: the radiant joy of those people. How is it possible to play, jump, sing, THANK GOD for having 1 meal a day on the table? (...) I was taken by surprise, I went with the intention of bringing love and joy, and when I got there I was the one who received it. I realized that they needed very little from me, I was the one who needed a lot from each one of them. I threw myself head first and had the best experience of my life.".
